Welcome To Lucky Bay Esperance

At the height of summer, few places on Earth feel as untouched and luminous as the beaches of Esperance. I recently took the 8hr drove from Perth to Esperance to photograph the amazing colours and textures of this area.

This stretch of coastline Lucky Bay, tucked within Cape Le Grand National Park near Esperance, is often celebrated as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches—and it’s easy to see why.

From above, the shoreline reveals a mesmerizing contrast: powdery white sand meeting an expanse of electric turquoise water. The waves roll in gently, their foamy edges tracing delicate, ever-changing patterns along the coast. In images like these, the scene feels almost abstract—textures of lace-like surf blending into gradients of blue, as if painted rather than photographed.

During peak summer, the bay comes alive under clear skies and brilliant sunlight, intensifying the already surreal colours. The water shifts from pale aqua near the shore to deeper sapphire tones further out, while the sand remains dazzlingly bright, composed of some of the whitest grains found anywhere in the world. It’s this striking clarity and contrast that make aerial perspectives so captivating; they strip the scene down to its purest elements of colour, form, and motion.

Yet beyond its visual beauty, Lucky Bay carries a sense of calm. Even in the busiest months, there’s a serenity to the rhythm of the waves and the vast openness sand track and coastline that is Lucky Bay. Whether captured in a single still frame or a series of summer images, the essence remains the same: a pristine meeting point of land and sea, where nature’s simplicity becomes its greatest spectacle.

It’s no wonder this beach consistently earns its place among the best in the world, each image tells the story anew.

Frame a single one piece or all three as a series ...
