Black Church Budir Snaefellsnes Peninsula

On my tours of Iceland we stop by this stunning little church on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula ... A majority of the Iceland small churches are painted white and red with some blue, this is the only one we have seen that is black. It is actually black tar that has been used to stain and protect the wood of the church from the extreme harsh conditions of the area.

Situated on the coastal peninsula with huge snow caped very imposing mountains on the other side of it this tiny church must get battered by some of the worst weather on earth, yet it still stands and looking to be in very good working condition ..
